Good morning Members of the CDA Rowing Association –

It is time once again for our annual meeting where the membership of our club is tasked with electing Board Members for the 2019 fiscal year. Your Board of Directors is responsible for conducting the business and operations of our non-profit organization as well as ensuring that our club lives up to our stated mission which is to “Inspire a lifelong love of the sport of rowing in a safe and fun environment.” The term for each member of the Board is one year.

Your current Board is comprised of the following volunteers:

Tom Hamilton – President
Mark Vorhees – Vice President
Kathleen Atkins – Treasurer
Ann Cone – Secretary
Martin Stacey – Member at Large
Stephanie Keaty – Member at Large

With the exception of Stephanie, each member of the Board has stated that they are willing to continue to serve for the next fiscal year and their names will be put forward for consideration.

However, every member of the CDA Rowing Association has the ability to nominate either themselves or someone else for election to any Board position. To serve on the Board, one does not need to be a member of the CDA Rowing Association.

All members in good standing are eligible to nominate and are also eligible to vote (including our Junior members!). Please note that Affiliate Members do not have voting privileges.

If you are interested in serving or nominating either a current Board Member or someone else to any of the positions on our Board, please submit that nomination to Ann Cone at Secretary@cdarowing.org. Ann will compile all nominations and prepare a ballot for any contested or open positions. Members will be able to vote via email or at the annual meeting which will be held on October 17th at Calypso’s Coffee beginning at 5:30 PM.

The timeline for the election process will be as follows:

Nominations are open beginning today.
Friday, Oct 5: Nominations Closed
Monday, Oct 8: Ballots distributed via email to all members in good standing. Ballots can be returned via email, US Post Office or in person at the annual meeting but must be received no later than 5:30PM on October 17 to be considered.
Tuesday, Oct 17: Annual meeting – votes tallied and your Board elected for the next year.
One last thing, the Board is considering a change to the by-laws to take our Board from 6 members to 7 for a couple of reasons. One is that odd numbers work better in the event of a tie, but also there are times our busy schedules may make it hard to seat a quorum. Changes to the bylaws require a vote of membership so we will put that out for consideration as well. If approved, we will be looking for one more volunteer for an additional Member at Large position.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns

Good afternoon Rowers, Friends, Families and Fans!

Head Race Season is here! We have two upcoming Head Race opportunities as follows.

Head of the Pend Oreille is Sept 29th in Priest River, Idaho.

Head of the Spokane is Oct 13 at the Gonzaga Boathouse in Spokane.

Any member in good standing is welcome to come race with us, but we need your entries soon in order to submit on time!

Masters, if you'd like to row but aren't already in a boat, please contact Sherry Wood (208) 699-4617 and she will find you a spot! If you're in the Master's 8 already, don't worry, Sherry has forwarded that information.

Juniors - we have your list from TeamStuff, but you need to let us know before Monday if anything is going to change. Line-ups and entries will be finalized at that point.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

Best regards

Thank you to all of the competitors and fans who joined us for a great day of racing at the Fernan Frenzy today. We had a great day of community rowing and exciting events!

Please see below for the posted results.

With my apologies, the times for bow numbers 25 and 26 are reversed. My tired old eyes couldn't make it out.

We will see you again next year!

Fernan Frenzy - 2018

We are one week away from Race Day and hoping to see lots of you there! Below is a little bit of information you will need to make the experience more enjoyable and avoid getting in trouble with our friendly neighborhood police!

Coxswains and Coaches Meeting is set for 7:15 AM. Prior to that, the area around our docks will be a flurry of activity as visiting Crews get their boats ready to row. You are certainly welcome to observe these activities, but please leave them space for their boats and room to work! Racing should start about 8 AM if all goes well.

Parking at the Fernan Docks is limited. If you park in the slots designated for boat trailers and you don't have a boat trailer or the required parking pass, you WILL get a ticket! Please park on the streets near to the parking lot (being respectful of our neighbors!) and walk on down...it's supposed to be a pleasant morning.

The best viewing for racing activities will be along Fernan Lake Drive. However, parking along that road is also very limited and traffic can be a bit heavy. We would like to ask that you consider carpooling / shuttling down to the best viewing spots. We will have a Parking Lot Coordinator that should be able to help with this.

Racing will be along a 1000 meter course starting at the house 1/2 down the lake on the north side and ending at the last dock before the houses. Please see the attached photo here. Anywhere along that course that you can safely park and exit your vehicle will be a great place to see the race!

Parents, please remember that your kids are there to focus on their race and may or may not be super glad to see you. Please forgive them for that, they still love you, but with that in mind we recommend you bring comfy chairs and maybe even a good book to read as their can be a lull in the action from time to time.

Lastly, please leave your pets at home! The staging area is busy with a lot of activity and very expensive equipment. Fido may be a big racing fan, but he's going to be in the way on Saturday and frankly, he'll be safer at home as well.

If I can answer any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hello CDA Rowing Masters, Juniors, Parents and Friends,

If you will be participating in and/or attending the 2018 Fernan Frenzy on Saturday, July 28th, we would like to invite you to bring a salad, chips or dessert for ten to share with participating crews and attending family members. Plates, napkins and utensils will be provided. If you are unable to bring something to share - no worry, please join us - there will be plenty of nourishment for everyone. See below for the breakdown for the "potluck portion" of our celebration.

If I could get a couple of parents to help with the managing of the food tent that would be great! We need one more "pop up tent" and a couple of tables. Please email me at lawyerannie@yahoo.com or call/text at 208.691.6855.

· A- D – bring breakfast items (fruit, muffins, granola bars, etc) - have them down at the dock about 8 am

· E – L – bring sides (chips, salads, etc) - have them down at the dock by 11 am

· M-Z – bring desserts - have them down at the dock at 11 am

CDA Rowing Association will be providing sandwiches and water for all present.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to our regatta food.

We are looking forward to a celebration of rowing and camaraderie!

Ann Cone

The Nelson Sprints are set for August 11th and they are accepting entries for 1x, 2x and 4x boats. Format is 1000M sprints with the addition this year of a 500M novice category. The entry fee is $55 which includes more than one race and a BBQ / Awards Ceremony at the end of racing. Additional BBQ tickets are available for non-rowers for $10 each.

Nelson has asked that we submit our entries and payment as a group so I will be collecting both.to submit on behalf of the club.
