We are in the process of replacing this dock. There are now gaping & unsafe holes, therefore all learn to row events have been postponed until mid July. Sorry for the inconvenience. We hope to get everyone on the water as soon as possible as safely as possible. Photo from 2017. ... See MoreSee Less
URGENT! Please read and share as needed!
It is VERY important that we all keep in mind that we are essentially guests of Kootenai County at Fernan Lake with a one-of-a-kind lease agreement that must be periodically renewed. This year at our renewal, the County brought up some issues that we are creating for them that must be resolved right away.
Parking at Fernan is very limited and the parking spaces are specific to the designated use meaning, it is NOT okay to park in the spots designated for trailer parking, even if just temporarily while picking someone up. In addition, due to the high number of participants that we are having especially at Junior Practice, we end up taking up nearly all of the available parking places reserved for the general public. Both of these situations have to be changed right away.
To remedy this, we are asking the following:
• Juniors - please start making arrangements to carpool as much as possible from your local high schools to practice. We would ask that you take as many as possible in a few cars and leave other vehicles at the high school or at home until after practice is over. Kids arriving solo in a personal vehicle to practice will be asked to join a carpool or may be asked to park near the Forest Service building to avoid taking up too many parking spots.
• Parents - we do our best to have practice end as scheduled but there will be some variation. Please do NOT park in the trailer spots to wait for your rower to come up over the hill. If no spots are available in general parking, or if another park user needs to general public parking spot, please wait near the Forest Service building until your rower calls or texts you to say they are ready to be picked up.
The County is a fan of CDA Rowing and is highly supportive of our program and activities at Fernan. These parking requirements are to help maintain that relationship but must be considered mandatory.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Please do NOT contact the County and make an issue...

ANNUAL MEETING AND ELECTION OF THE 2019 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Good morning Members of the CDA Rowing Association –
It is time once again for our annual meeting where the membership of our club is tasked with electing Board Members for the 2019 fiscal year. Your Board of Directors is responsible for conducting the business and operations of our non-profit organization as well as ensuring that our club lives up to our stated mission which is to “Inspire a lifelong love of the sport of rowing in a safe and fun environment.” The term for each member of the Board is one year.
Your current Board is comprised of the following volunteers:
Tom Hamilton – President
Mark Vorhees – Vice President
Kathleen Atkins – Treasurer
Ann Cone – Secretary
Martin Stacey – Member at Large
Stephanie Keaty – Member at Large
With the exception of Stephanie, each member of the Board has stated that they are willing to continue to serve for the next fiscal year and their names will be put forward for consideration.
However, every member of the CDA Rowing Association has the ability to nominate either themselves or someone else for election to any Board position. To serve on the Board, one does not need to be a member of the CDA Rowing Association.
All members in good standing are eligible to nominate and are also eligible to vote (including our Junior members!). Please note that Affiliate Members do not have voting privileges.
If you are interested in serving or nominating either a current Board Member or someone else to any of the positions on our Board, please submit that nomination to Ann Cone at Secretary@cdarowing.org. Ann will compile all nominations and prepare a ballot for any contested or open positions. Members will be able to vote via email or at the annual meeting which will be held on October 17th at Calypso’s Coffee beginning at 5:30 PM.
The timeline for the election process will be as follows:
Nominations are open beginning today.
Friday, Oct 5: Nominations Closed
Monday, Oct 8: Ballots distributed via email to all members in good standing. Ballots can be returned via email, US Post Office or in person at the annual meeting but must be received no later than 5:30PM on October 17 to be considered.
Tuesday, Oct 17: Annual meeting – votes tallied and your Board elected for the next year.
One last thing, the Board is considering a change to the by-laws to take our Board from 6 members to 7 for a couple of reasons. One is that odd numbers work better in the event of a tie, but also there are times our busy schedules may make it hard to seat a quorum. Changes to the bylaws require a vote of membership so we will put that out for consideration as well. If approved, we will be looking for one more volunteer for an additional Member at Large position.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns
Tom Hamilton – President
